Are the people on my road getting smarter about snow?

Summer
We had, perhaps, an inch of snow on my roads. However, this snow was second cousin to marbles. I made the decision last night that I didn't want to fuss with my snow chains, so parked at the bottom of the hill just next to the mailboxes - a simple 15 feet from pavement.

This morning, as I walked down the road and down the hill to my car, I looked at the tire tracks left in the snow along the way. There were two sets of tracks where cars had turned around before even reaching the downslope of the hill. There was also one obvious loss of traction on the straightaway. I wonder if the two drivers who turned around decided that they were having sufficient problems with traction to not risk the downhill slide. I also wonder if the fishtailing was simply bad luck, since that set of tracks went politely down the hill without any other issues.

Also, on a related note, my county canceled school this morning.

Probably bad luck, I know my traction control was complaining at me on my way out of the neighborhood which hadn't been plowed. So if I'd been a little more cocky about the only one inch, then I might have fish-tailed at some point.

I saw the 1" and said no problem, puled off the gravel onto the hard road and immediately started spinning the rear wheels. Stopped, put it into 4-paw and kept going.

I'm not sure a FWD/2WD would have made it up my street. I was the only track up the hill at that time.
