Proud to Be Me Day (geek girls can be proud too)

This is a reposted link from vvalkyri.

A little girl named Katie - adopted, Jewish, wears an eye patch, likes Star Wars - suddenly changed her habits to "fit in better" better at school, and her mother noticed and acted on it immediately. Her mother brought it to the school's attention so that the pressure to fit in at age 7 did not either turn her daughter into a mainstream clone or turn her daughter's classmates onto bullying and ostracism later. And Katie's mother posted about this issue online. Which, due to some kind-hearted souls, went viral in the best possible way. Tomorrow is Proud to Be Me Day at Katie's school, where the children are being encouraged to dress up and represent something that they find interesting.

'The Force' is with you, Katie

Note at the end of the article that Katie is done with interviews and is donating most of the toys. She is back to being a 7-year-old, and the media circus can go on without her.
