I made a few phone calls and found a cleaners/laundry service that is big into customer service on the phone. The gent with whom I spoke is willing to wash (not dry clean) the king-sized pillow-top mattress protector and *air dry* it, so long as we don't need it back this week. While his dryers have the capacity to do it, he is concerned about shrinkage and melting issues. So he would much prefer to hang dry my mattress protector than run it through the dryer and possibly wreck it. Really, he was more concerned with discussing the possible issues than getting my business. Because of his attitude, I look forward to meeting him and giving him my money.

ETA: He was just as good in person. He took a long look at the mattress pad, discussed options, and asked how it was being used. He then asked if I was ok with being charged for two pieces, since this really was a clamshell with a zipper. I agreed that it was truly two pieces, and that since it was for a waterbed, a small bit of shrinkage or deformation was ok. Great guy. Now let's see the final product...

good choice on his part. i've seen the melting mattress pad bottom, and it isn't pretty.

Which reminds me that I need to buy a new one as at 1am my choice was to make the bed with none or to cut the anti-mite/anti-moisture lining out (it looked like a sea creature).
