We win at alpacas!

The rescue alpacas left for their forever home this morning. They were calm about being haltered, and walked reasonably nicely. They balked about getting in the trailer, but that's ok. The family that helped me bring them home took them away for delivery to the new family, so got to see how much better the alpacas looked and acted. We talked with the new family about leading by bribery, and how I spend time just standing around with the animals to get them used to me being there. I even got to give the experienced family advice about one of their more skittish and needy animals - I told the high school girl to start doing her homework in a stall with that alpaca. Don't touch the animal, just talk and be there.

I think this alpaca-rescue season was a valuable experience for me, and a life-saving one for the alpacas. They were nice boys who got caught in a bad situation, and now everything has turned around for them. I hope the new family gets to see Patrick's happy food dance soon.

And Hercules is PISSED. The alpacas left to go adventuring without him. It is so UNFAIR that he could... well... run in circles and whine a lot. ::shrug:: He'll get over it, I'm sure.
