Damage report for our Halloween Hurricane
30th-Oct-2012 10:41 am
It appears that we got off relatively lightly for the number of trees that came down. We had two trees hit the house. One is still sitting on the peak of the roof, and one bounced off of the south slope of the Great Room side. The one that hit the peak of the roof sliced off the patio light next to the basement door. We have fence breaches in three places, totalling four trees. One of those trees also pushed aside the water spigot for the front pasture. The back barn's roof peeled up on one corner, but both barns and all the animals came through as well as could be expected. And now they are out enjoying the tasty fresh leaves.

The more difficult thing is something we aren't allowed to really do much about: the power lines. Looking up and down the right-of-way, it looks like there is almost a tree down per power pole for as far as we can see. The two new poles that were put in three weeks ago are both leaning badly. I don't know if they can be uprighted or if they will need replacing again. I'll leave that to the experts.

The entire album of photos is on Picasa here. Alternatively, a selection of photos are behind the cut.

Thanks! The boys were wet due to the angle of the rain, but everyone seems to have survived ok.

Yikes! Glad you're ok! Scary about the power lines. And crappy about the trees.

It would be scary, but the lines are actually broken, so no power is leaking out of them. If that makes sense.

Ah. Yes, that does make sense. Well, that's good!

Wow! I'm glad nobody got hurt with all that damage.

Yeah, it was impressive.
Thanks for the good wishes!
