Books: Ghost Seer, by Robin Owens

Ghost Seer, by Robin Owens. Paranormal Romance (yes, that is a type). Paperback, 312 pages. First in the series. Giveawaybox.

This one was pretty good. Both Claire (a newly empowered medium) and Zach (a recently disabled-into-retirement deputy) were strong characters with interesting mannerisms and challenging dialog. Both of them got to show strength, attitude, cleverness, weakness, and disability. The three plot pieces were disparate enough to provide grist in the plot mill while the romance surged and tangled. Thankfully, the secondary characters were by turns interesting and typical. The comic relief was provided by a dead dog named Enzo.

The sex scenes were both intense (in their vocabulary) and blessedly short. If they weren't going to provide variety, at least they provided more structure to the relationship between Claire and Zach.

It's not quite the season for beach books, but I do recommend this one as such.
