achaosofkittens helped out yesterday, which made almost everything go smoothly. I had a gate failure (I was holding it rather than latched it) so the two big sheep got loose, but CK got them back into the stall with only a minor bit of assistance from Dr. Vandry and me. Everyone got their CD&T and Dectomax. Dr. Vandry did sonograms for Sashimi and Summer. And yes, it was a balmy 18 degrees outside for all of this. Thank goodness CK put that liner inside the barn to cut the wind! It was still really cold.
Sashimi got sonogrammed because she wasn't acting or looking pregnant when CK trimmed her hooves just before Christmas. I think we saw a heartbeat, but no platelets, so the guess is that she is something under 60 days pregnant, but something over 30 days. OK, so assume she is at 45 days (cut the difference)... At only 45 days, Jared must have made her his last fling before he was pulled out of the girls' pen. Of course, this is also going to be Sashimi's first kidding, so she could also be carrying really high and awkward too. And this spring's kidding season just got expanded by a month, because 45 days now makes her due sometime around May 2nd.
Summer did not show anything on the sonogram. This is good. I caught Loki mounting his sister, so I was concerned that he got all cozy with Summer before we kicked him out of the girls' pen. Summer is just too small and sickly for me to be comfortable with her being pregnant.
As far as the other pregnancies -- we will know for sure after Kevin Ford comes down to shear them, however, I'm very confident that Goldie is pregnant. She is the one who crawled under the fence to fraternize with Jared, so she probably caught immediately.
