Goats, gripes, and grasping for greatness
Artichoke plants are happening! And potatoes got planted.

I worked in the garden this evening. I got the six potato grow bags set up and started. I'm horribly late, but hopefully we will get something from the Yukon Golds that I put into dirt.

I also pulled the mulch away from the two artichoke starts that I planted in the raised bed. They are still alive! They are not very vibrant, but they are definitely growing. Three of four starts that we put in pots in the great room are doing well; one of them is doing amazingly well. The fourth one didn't make it from the beginning. But that is ok, because we really only need two plants total. If only FireandEarth had an outdoor garden. I would give a plant to her, for sure.

Um. Big. Really big.

Your pots should be at least 3 feet across for each individual plant, and 1 foot or more in depth. At the end of the season, cut back the plant as mentioned above, mulch over and move the pot to a sheltered area (like inside an unheated garage). Uncover them in the spring. - http://www.gardeningblog.net/how-to-grow/artichokes/
