Trees are in the HIGH range with oak, ash, sycamore, birch and beech as the major tree offenders. That greenish-yellow film is just starting to build up on outdoor surfaces. Beech is in the same family as oak, however the pollen from the two trees is very different. Beech is a large pollen about 35 to 50 microns, much larger than oak pollen. The smooth, gray bark of the beech tree is a favorite for those who love to carve out their initials. Beech nuts are used as a coffee alternative while the oil from the tree is used for lamp oil or making soap. Beech tar has been used for skin disorders.
