It was a hot and sultry night. Jim Davis (creator of Garfield), Mike Peters (creator of Mother Goose & Grimm) and I sat at a banquet table, invitees to a benefit dinner for the Sarasota Hospital. We were well into our second bottle of wine when a Garfield fan sat down next to Jim and said, "Mr. Davis, I've always wondered; where do you get your ideas!?" Without missing a beat, Jim replied, "Schenectady." Satisfied, the inquiring mind wandered off.
