Tom-foolery, the natural way

Yesterday afternoon I saw what looked like a young hawk running back and forth on a fallen log and flapping his wings in some sort of practice, or perhaps stalking a bit of late lunch. As I squinted harder, it wasn't a hawk at all, but a turkey flapping and flipping an immature tail. It was a great surprise to me to see the bird rise up from the log and transform from wings and feathers into a doe's ears and tail. Two fawns rose up on either side. It was the coolest bit of eye-to-mind foolery that I've suffered in quite a while.
