Maybe a skunk?

On Sunday, we planted all of the peppers and tomato plants. This involved amending the raised beds and broadforking them, covering them with landscape fabric, planting the plants, and then watering the plants with bass-o-matic fish goo. We then enclosed the beds in bent cattle panels, so that the deer would not dine upon our new plants.

Last night we went out to look at our handiwork, only to discover that the beds had been sweetly and lovingly ripped to shit. Whatever was out there was not interested in either the plants or specifically where we had watered with the fish goo. The animal had gone to the edges of the beds and lifted up the landscape fabric to get into the freshly turned dirt. The conclusion is that our little vandal was grubbing for worms, ants, or something else in the dirt. The second conclusion is that we need to re-fence with our rabbit-proof fencing in order to keep out rabbit-sized creatures who happen to like to dig rather than just nibble.
