"I cross-checked a deer last night, using my car."
I saw the group of deer that had already crossed the road, so was braking very hard in case someone changed her mind and came back across the road. Of course I was blindsided by the straggler... Given the speed (15 mph), I ended up barrel-rolling him down the road a few times. He (she?) got up and ran off without even stopping to shake his head to clear it. I watched the whole group go bounding off with the high boinging strides of alert-but-not-in-panic, and could not pick out my target-fawn from the other one by attitude, only by placement. So hopefully he didn't get anything worse than bruised, and also learned something about keeping up with the herd when they are crossing the street.
